Jordan Spieth Praises Sedgefield

Jordan Spieth tees it up at the 2025 Wyndham Championship Pro-Am

On Wednesday, three-time major champion Jordan Spieth gave the national TV audience some glowing praise for Sedgefield Country Club and what a unique challenge the Donald Ross layout presents.

Todd Lewis (Golf Channel): “Jordan's got some nice history (at Sedgefield). Your first appearance, 2013, you nearly won this tournament, losing in a playoff. You said this is one of the better tracks on the PGA Tour schedule, Sedgefield. Why so?”

Jordan Spieth: “Well, it's an old classic golf course that you have to think your way around. It's got doglegs both ways. You gotta hit it low. You gotta hit it high. The pins kinda determine — you’ve got to play it backwards from where the pins are on where your misses are. And then — obviously, with fast, slope-y Bermuda — you have some putts that you only see a few times a year that you've got to go get dialed into. So, it's a real test.”

“Hitting fairways is important. Approach play is important. Chipping is about as hard as it gets with this grainy Bermuda. And then, the greens are tough. So, it's not particularly long — but you don't hit driver all the time around the place. So, it's just a good test.”

“You see some low scores, and that's guys that are attacking from no wind with shorter clubs. So it's worth playing pretty aggressive, But you still gotta roll in a lot of putts out here. And it's one that, as the wind blows, that course starts to show a lot of teeth.”
